Rogue's real name and the identities of her parents still remain unknown. She grew up in Caldecott County, Mississippi near the banks of the Mississippi River. Early in her teens
Rogue discovered her mutant powers when she kissed a boy named Cody Robbins. He fell unconscious and her mind was suddenly filled with his memories. She soon learned that she had the power to absorb the memories and abilities of other people by touching them, but she could not control this power.
The distraught Rogue found refuge with the mutant Mystique, who was like a second mother to her. When Rogue grew older she joined Mystique's terrorist  organization, the third Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Then Mystique assigned Rogue to ambush the original Ms. Marvel and steal her powers so she could use them to free the other members of the Brotherhood from prison.   But, for unknown reasons, Rogue unintentionally absorbed them permanently rather than, as usual, temporarily. Thus Rogue gained  Ms. Marvel's superhuman strength and  ability to fly. She also now possessed a buried alternate personality that duplicated Danvers and that, in future years, would sometimes supplant her own. As a member of Mystique's Brotherhood, Rogue battled the X-Men, the Avengers, the original Spider-Woman, the Dazzler, and Rom.

However Rogue grew increasingly upset over her inability to control her absorption power and her fears that Danvers' psyche would overwhelm her own. Unable to find help from  the Brotherhood, Rogue turned to her enemies, the X-Men, instead. Convinced of her sincerity, Professor Xavier admitted her to the team, and she quickly proved herself a loyal member. Except for some temporary absences, Rogue has remained a member of the X-Men ever since. She has never gained conscious control of her absorption power, but her passage through the mystic "Siege Perilous" rid her of Danvers' personality.
Rogue, after passing through the Seige Perrilous, wound up in the
Savage land, only to find that her Ms. Marvel personality had split from her. The two fought, and Rogue almost lost, but Magneto saved her. Rogue had continued to lose and regain her powers sporadically. After spending some -achem- quality time with Magneto, S.H.I.E.L.D. came by, and she accepted a lift home. There,  she found newcomer Gambit, who tirelessly hit on her. However, her powers of absorption (along with Gambits unwillingness to let anyone read his thoughts) made for a... strained relationship. The Rouge/Gambit ordeal has been one that no one should have to go through. First, it turns out Gambit had a dead wife who was supposed to come back to life. Rogue kicked her ass, but absorbed a lot of her personality in doing so. Then Sabretooth started living in the Mansion and told Rogue the story of when Gambit let the woman he "loved" fall to her death (Who he was actually using to get a rare artifact). Then, just as it seemed like the world was going to end (see AoA for details), Rogue and Gambit shared a kiss. However, they both survived (The AoA having been negated before it began,
so to speak), putting Gambit in a coma and Rogue knowing Gambit's dark secret (Which she buried in her subconscious). She couldn't decode the information, and the two lovers actually started duking it out. Rogue left the X-Men for a while so she could get her head out.

Under the alias Ms. Smith (Gee, how original...), she rented a room, got a job... and then she got captured by the friends of humanity, where she was saved by Joseph (That young guy everyone thought was Magneto). With the help of the Avengers, the two made it to New York just in time to

face Onslaught, and while not hitting Onslaught, they were hitting ON each other! That cheesed Gambit off to no end. Gambit and Joe eventually acted like real men and duked it out for Rogues affection. Incidentally, she couldn't care less. The two settled their differences. ("Nice left, by the way.")

However, Joe wasn't about to give up. He used the Z'Nox chamber
(A small room that is completely impenetrable psionicly) to
temporarily negate Rogues powers, just enough time to give her a

Christmas gift A kiss on the forehead. However, Rogue, Joe, Beast,
Gambit, Bishop, and Trish Tilby (Beast's woman) were transported
into the middle of a Phalanx invasion of the Shi'ar Empire. Rogue
then received information as to the Phalanx's plans for Earth, but
on the way home, everyone ended up in a cave (?) and Rogue
evidently forgot all about it. Sans Bishop (Who was taken by
Deathbird and believed dead), The X-Men soon encountered some
bounty hunters who were instructed to take Gambit. Knowing why,
he agreed, and left with them. The remaining X-folks gave chase, only to wind up in a citadel. They were all separated and captured by "Erik the Red", along with Psylocke, Angel, and Maggott. There, the team learned Gambits dark secret Via a "trial" orchestrated by the Red man. It turns out that Gambit once worked for Mr. Sinister, and forcing Rogue to kiss Gambit, everyone found out why. Gambit assembled the Marauders, and was in part responsible for the Mutant Massacre. With that said, "Erik" disappeared, and the Citadel began to collapse. The X-Men escaped via a shadow portal (Courtesy of Psylocke), but left Gambit
behind.

Rogue, having absorbed Gambits self-hatred, began to hate Gambit
herself. Now finally wanting to rid herself of her powers, she
attempted to undergo a "treatment" which would cure her of her
mutantcy. However, Mystique ruined the attempt, and convinced
Rogue to keep her powers. Rogue was one of four X-Men to stay on
the team after everyone else started leaving, but she, along with
Wolverine, Storm, and Marrow, were eventually joined by Colossus,
Nightcrawler, and Shadowcat to stop an attempt by Cerebro (Which had taken sentience and emulated Xavier and some evil (X-Men) to steal a satellite from a  nuclear rocket (Which would have exploded, killing millions if Cerebro got its way). When Gambit finally returned, he and Rogue were trying to make up when they were attacked by some crazy green chick, who really pissed Rogue off. The two are officially a couple again, but as seen in "The Magneto War", she still harbors feelings for the master of (animal) Magnetism.

When the Galactic Council transformed Earth into a maximum-security penal colony for hundreds of extraterrestrial criminals, Rogue absorbed the attributes of Z'Cann -- a telepathic alien shapeshifter who had joined Cadre K, Xavier's Skrull equivalent to the X-Men. Z'Cann purposely touched Rogue to activate the mutant's abilities as the two evaded bounty hunters. But Z'Cann used her telepathy to amplify Rogue's capacity to assimilate memories, causing her powers to mutate. While still coping with her evolved abilities, Rogue and several of her teammates left the safety of the X-Mansion to search for Destiny's missing diaries, which map out human history...
